Project Name:  Hilo Courthouse Roofing Improvements, Hilo, Hawai'i

Project Owner:  The United States of America, General Services Administration

Project Location:  Hilo, Hawai'i

Project Description:  Project management, architectural/engineering design, and construction management services to survey, evaluate, and replace the existing clay tile and membrane roofing system of this three story concrete and stucco structure. The total roof area is approximately 17,000 square feet.

Originally designed in 1917 by Henry O. Whitfield, this classical revival building accommodates various federal agency offices including a U.S. Post Office. This building was identified as a historic structure and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

With an annual rainfall of 127 inches, the major project challenge was to stage and demolish the existing roof assembly with minimal exposure to the weather. Careful planning and management during construction allowed for the successful completion of the project with minimal disruption to the users of the facility.

Year Completed:  2002

Construction Value:  $638,000
